EVENTS & STORIES

On a beautiful afternoon, Yù Wagashi had the pleasure of conducting a highly anticipated Wagashi workshop at the Japanese Language and Cultural Center (JLCC) at Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). We were thrilled by the overwhelming response, as tickets sold out within just two days, bringing together 21 eager students, along with several enthusiastic teachers from UTM.

A Warm Welcome by Kelsey-sensei and Team

Our workshop was gracefully hosted by Kelsey-sensei and her dedicated team, who provided a wealth of knowledge about the intricate art of wagashi. Their passion for Japanese culture and traditional sweets was evident as they shared fascinating insights and historical context with the participants. The atmosphere was electric with curiosity and excitement as students and teachers alike immersed themselves in the world of wagashi.
.

Hands-on Learning Experience

The workshop kicked off with a detailed introduction to the different types of wagashi, their cultural significance, and the meticulous craftsmanship involved in creating these beautiful confections. Participants were then given the opportunity to try their hands at making wagashi under the expert guidance of our skilled instructors.
.
The hands-on session was a highlight for many, as they learned to shape and decorate their own wagashi creations. From the delicate nerikiri to the colorful namagashi, each participant crafted unique pieces that reflected their newfound skills and creativity. The joy and satisfaction on their faces were truly rewarding for us.
.

A Successful and Fulfilling Day

By the end of the afternoon, the participants not only left with their beautiful handmade wagashi but also with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japanese confectionery art. The success of this workshop was a testament to the shared passion for cultural exchange and learning between Yù Wagashi and the MJIIT community.
.
We are immensely grateful to the Japanese Language and Cultural Center at MJIIT, UTM for this wonderful collaboration. Special thanks to Kelsey-sensei and her team for their invaluable contributions and to all the participants for their enthusiasm and dedication.
